Twenty years of writing software. The kind a business ends up running on every day.

I run a software house in Faisalabad that builds for clients in more than 15 countries, and I’m the engineering half of a dealer platform that has been in daily use on American car lots for ten years.

01 About

I have been building software for twenty years. I began as an independent developer, working directly with clients in the UK, Europe, Australia and North America, and that is where I learned what the work is really about: understand the business first, commit to a date, and keep the client informed until it ships.

In 2013 that practice became Xelent Solutions. Today the company delivers custom software, web and mobile products for clients in more than 15 countries, runs dedicated engineering teams for technology companies in the United States, and builds its own products for accounting, payroll, CRM and tax compliance.

Alongside that, my team has spent more than a decade embedded with a group of US car dealerships, building the systems they operate on every day. That work became carBlue, and it shaped how I think about software: it has to hold up inside a working business, not just in a demo.

A dealer operating system: inventory pipeline, title workflow, recon shop floor, pricing and reporting in one place. It follows a vehicle through eight stages, from the auction lane to the day the lender pays. Allen brings the dealership operations. Through Xelent, I bring the engineering team that builds and supports it inside live dealerships.

A prediction Written September 2026

Within ten years, most business software will not be bought. It will be described, and then generated for the one company that needs it. Code is becoming cheap. What stays expensive is knowing what to ask for: which problem is worth solving, what the business should look like once it is solved, and who answers when the machine gets it wrong. Judgment becomes the scarce thing. The companies that have it will outrun the ones that only have the tools.
